Ebbsfleet United can now proudly boast an over 60s football team and they started as they mean to go on by winning their first ever game, writes Chris Judge.
Due to the popularity of the Over 50s walking football initiative that has swept the country, the Ebbsfleet squad has now developed a further age group with our Over 60s side!
Fleet co-ordinator Chris Judge said, “Walking Football now has over 1,500 teams throughout the country and the Kent-based Bays City Sports club football team wanted to promote Over 60s if there was enough support.
“They organised the first ever Kent Over 60s tournament in Sandwich where Ebbsfleet finished fourth from the seven teams that took part. One more goal would have put us second overall on goal difference.”
The Fleet won their first ever game beating Ramsgate 3-0, with goals from Steve East, Ian Twaits and Paul Lancaster. The team has received support from Andreas Carter Sports, the official supplier of the Fleet kit and who run the club shop at the Kuflink Stadium.
“The new green kit will be used as the official away kit for the entire Over 50s squad,” Chris Judge said. “We are eternally grateful to Jerry Carter who runs the shop for all his support and encouragement. All his products are really first rate.”
