Trophy quarter-final footage added

Continuing to work our way through restoring the video archives on the club’s YouTube account, today we have added the tight encounter against Burton Albion on our road to Wembley in 2008.

The quarter-final replay was played in February 2008 and the tie proved to be one where defences were very much on top.

Fleet weren’t expected to come out on top in the first match when they visited the Pirelli Stadium against a side who would spend much of the next season cruising towards the Conference title.

Liam Daish’s side managed the game perfectly to its goalless conclusion but this evening replay at Stonebridge Road was equally as tight with the defences equally uncompromising.

Another goalless 90 minutes resulted until deep into extra-time and with penalties looming, Stacy Long collected George Purcell’s pass forward and got enough on a shot to confuse goalkeeper Saul Deeney who spilled his attempted save.

That goal meant Fleet had qualified for our first Trophy semi-final after two previous near misses under Liam Daish where the side had come unstuck at the quarter-final stage.

Video highlights are below. Tomorrow we’ll be adding both legs of the Aldershot semi-final.
