Midweek matches keep Fleet ticking

The Fleet played two training games this week as Tuesday night’s hosting of Maidstone United U23s was followed by a Wednesday afternoon trip to Hanwell Town FC in West London to take on Championship side Brentford’s B Team.

On Tuesday evening at the Kuflink Stadium, Fleet ran out 7-0 winners against Maidstone’s U23s, Greg Cundle grabbing a hatful of goals. He scored the first, fourth, fifth and sixth Fleet goals of the night, including a penalty, wrapping up a first-half hat-trick.

Other goals (see video below) came via the boot of Michael West, Trialist B and Alex Eirich. The team on the night, which included Academy goalkeepers Harrison Firth and Jack Moore was: Firth (Moore), Solly (Kahraman), Frempah, Rowan, Trialist A, West, Trialist B, Mekki, Martin (Paxman), Cundle (Adebayo-Rowling), Eirich

Fleet faced a strong and quick Brentford B the following day at Hanwell Town’s Powerday Stadium where a side with a number of changes from the previous evening maintained the high workrate demanded by the management despite the end of the National League South season. Aaron Pressley, son of ex-Hearts, Celtic and Scotland international Steven, scored Brentford’s opener in the first half. Firth made a number of good saves in the Fleet goal before a backpass catastrophe at the other end in the second half saw the visitors all square. Brentford rallied with two late goals from Irish and Welsh U21s Alex Gilbert and Joe Adams to leave the final score 3-1 to the hosts.

The team v Brentford was: Firth, Adebayo-Rowling, Chapman (Trialist C), Solly, Kahraman, Trialist A, Paxman, Wood, Poleon (Eirich), Bingham, Trialist B.
