Luton fixture postponed for second time

Following a pitch inspection at 4.00pm on Monday, the league game at Luton Town – due to be played on Tuesday 26th March at Kenilworth Road – has been postponed due to a pitch frozen in parts and waterlogged in others.

It is the second time the game has been called off and follows the Barrow postponement on Saturday which leaves the Fleet facing the prospect of a Thursday night on the road in addition to the other fixtures outstanding – all to be crammed in before the end of the season on April 20.

With some clubs calling for a season extension given the pressing schedules as a result of bad weather and an early official end to the 2012-13 campaign, the league reiterated that they would not be considering playing games beyond the final Saturday as the play-off semi-finals and then final at Wembley must go ahead on 5 May.

“All the arrangements [for the play-off final] are in place,” said Conference general manager Dennis Strudwick, as reported by the South Wales Argus. “I’ve seen plenty of quotes about not using Wembley and going somewhere else, but those are obviously observations made by people not in football administration.

“We can’t rule out games nearly every day, I did it as a player,” he added.
