Walking the walk

It was time for the pre-match bravado to stop and for Fleet’s veterans to step up to the mark in their first proper Over 50s Walking Football fixture (albeit a friendly).

The team had limbered up via a couple of training sessions and finally got to play for real on the Stonebridge Road pitch on Wednesday night. No matter that their opponents, the Kingshill Strollers, won the game 6-1 – it was a decent trial run for the raw Fleet boys as they aim for regular league outings next season.

With Kenny Clark having kept a watchful eye over his charges these past few weeks, the Fleet defender was philosophical in defeat. “We have some work to do but the team we played were very good, they came second in the Kent Walking Football League last season. It was a good test to see how competitive the league is for when we join – and I blame the referee anyway!”

The first away fixture (at Strood Leisure Centre) comes against the Medway Marauders next week.
