Wright here, right now

Ebbsfleet United can today confirm that midfielder Josh Wright will extend his tenure at the Kuflink Stadium as the former Gillingham player of the year became the latest announced retention in Dennis Kutrieb’s National League squad.

Wright’s long EFL career started out with Charlton Athletic as a junior, culminating at Crawley Town in 2021, before the 33-year-old briefly turned out for Billericay Town in 2021/22. He returned to the full-time game with the Fleet last summer, cementing a place in the middle of the park before an injury sustained at Oxford City in September ruled him out until January.

Despite that layoff, the vastly experienced Wright nevertheless clocked up 25 appearances on his way to a league winners’ medal and became one of the team’s key players as the Fleet homed in on confirming first place through the spring.

The midfielder, who completed the London Marathon last month, has made more than 400 appearances in the Championship, League One and League Two for the likes of Millwall and Leyton Orient but 2023/24 will be his first experience of the National League.

He opened his goalscoring account for the Fleet at Tonbridge and continued his Kent scoring form in another derby at Welling, while featuring high in the assists charts for the club too.
