Fleet welcome Shaymen in Round One

The Fleet have drawn National League side FC Halifax Town in Round One of the Emirates FA Cup.

Following the draw live on BBC Two, the Fleet were handed a home tie against fellow non-league opposition to take place on Saturday, 5th November.

The Shaymen are currently fifth from bottom of the National League and earned their place in Round One courtesy of a 3-0 win at St Ives Town on Saturday.

As former rivals in the National League, there have been a couple of big games against Halifax previously. Many Fleet fans will remember the must-win game at Stonebridge Road in 2003 to keep us in the Conference on the last day of the season, Liam Hatch’s goal ensuring a 1-0 win and survival.

And the same scoreline was recorded when last we met, at The Shay in 2019/20 on live TV in what became Western Europe’s last game before the Covid lockdown.

This will be the 19th meeting with FC Halifax and the previous Halifax Town clubs, but the first in a cup competition. Fleet lead the head to head sequence by nine wins to seven, with two draws.

The Shaymen made it to Round Two last season, where they were knocked out by a Kidderminster Harriers side featuring Fleet’s Omari Sterling-James.

Ticket news will be made available as soon as all involved parties have been contacted and discussions had around any necessary safety procedures and protocols.
