Fleet handed Hanwell visit in the Cup

Ebbsfleet United will take on Hanwell Town for the first time ever as the clubs were paired in the Emirates FA Cup draw earlier today, the Fleet being the last name out of the hat.

Hanwell – managed by former Dagenham striker Chris Moore – are currently in sixth place a step below the Fleet, in the Southern League Premier South Division. They were newly promoted to their current division after winning the Isthmian South Central play-offs last season and are competing at Step 3 for the first time in their history.

They play at the Powerday Stadium in Perivale, West London – though this will not be the first time Fleet have kicked a ball there, having taken on Brentford’s B team in a friendly at the ground at the end of the 2020/21 season.

The Geordies, as they are known since being formed by a group of Newcastle exiles working in the Hanwell area in 1920, have beaten Eastbourne Town and Cray Valley Paper Mills both away from home in this season’s competition so far and are looking to make the Fourth Qualifying Round for the first time in their history.

The match will be played on Saturday, October 1st with a 3.00pm kick-off. The winners receive £5,625 in prize money and the losers £1,875.
