Flawless Fleet finish friendlies with a win

The Fleet followed up a 5-1 Tuesday night win over Sittingbourne with a 3-1 victory over an Aldershot Town side to conclude the playing squad’s 2020/21 commitments.

All the goals were scored in the second-half in a game in which the Fleet dominated territory and possession. Dennis Kutrieb’s side stamped their authority on the game early on but could find no way through in the first 45 minutes for all their considerable efforts.

That all changed in the second half when substitute Dominic Poleon showed great presence of mind on 53 minutes to race on to Jack Paxman’s header forward. His power took him through two defenders and around the goalkeeper (pictured below) and he slid a shot from an angle into the corner of the goal.

Another substitute, Trialist D, was on hand to fire home the Fleet’s second on 68 minutes to put the home side into a deserved 2-0 lead. Ben Chapman dinked a ball into the box for Tobi Adebayo-Rowling who advanced to the byline and crossed low for his teammate to walk into the net.

Aldershot began to press only at this point of the match and they pulled one back with 10 minutes to go. The visitors had a couple of chances at that point but, as on Tuesday night when Sittingbourne scored with the last kick of the game, so Fleet did today.

A forward move by Rakish Bingham ended with Poleon playing a pass inside for the onrushing Paxman. Fleet’s player of the year took the return ball in his stride and calmly stroked an effort in off the far post for 3-1.

TEAM: Holmes (Firth), Solly, Kahraman (Frempah), Chapman, Adebayo-Rowling, Trialist A, Paxman, Trialist B (Poleon), Cundle (Eirich), Bingham, Trialist C (Trialist D).
