Ambition sways new signing Billy Bricknell

The Fleet have reunited recent new signing Ben May with his Dover Athletic strike partner Billy Bricknell after the London-based player departed the Whites earlier this month.

Billy, who turns 25 next month, began his career as a schoolboy at Tottenham before playing for Leyton and Billericay. His form at the Essex club – where he was top scorer in the Ryman Premier Division – brought him to the attention of League scouts and he went on trial at Barnet but opted instead for Chelmsford City in summer 2010, who paid Billericay an undisclosed fee for his services.

After reaching a play-off semi-final with the Clarets – where he played against the Fleet – Billy moved to Dover in the summer of 2011 and last season finished as second highest scorer behind teammate May.

Bricknell was upbeat on signing, praising the Fleet’s new-found aspirations: “I’m excited to join because of the ambition shown by the new owners – I had a few offers from other Conference South teams on the table but I chose Ebbsfleet due to the ambition they are showing to firstly get promotion straight back into the Confernce Premier and then to climb into the Football League. Obviously my time already spent with Steve Brown at Dover Athletic was a huge factor in joining and it’s a pleasure to be linking up with him again.”
