Ebbsfleet took home a point from their promotion clash at local rivals Welling – a result they would probably have accepted before the game and were likely more than happy with afterwards.

With Greek midfielder Giannoulis Fakinos’ registration still held up in seeking international clearance, Liam Daish returned Michael West to the fold, dropping ex-Welling man Joe Howe to the bench, while Clint Easton returned to the defence at Dean Pooley’s expense.

Welling started the quicker with Luis Cumbers beating the offside trap to break into the box but he couldn’t control the ball and Preston Edwards raced out to block him. They were made to rue that miss on seven minutes when a Welling clearance fell only as far as Ashley Carew and his speculative shot sailed over goalkeeper John Whitehouse who appeared to lose his footing and looped into the net.
