U19s take overall runners-up spot

Fleet’s Academy side finished as overall Tactic League runners-up after being edged out in their Regional Champions playoff final by 4-2 to Oxford’s Global Premier Soccer.

The final was played at Bedfont Sports FC and saw Fleet trail to an early goal, only to turn things around and lead 2-1 going into the break. However, GPS hit back in the second-half to take the honours.

Fleet won their Regional East League ahead of Ramsgate and Sutton United, securing 40 points from a possible total of 48 and that success earned progress into the Champions’ semi-final stages which consisted of all four regional league winners.

Fleet despatched Soccer Chance of North London in that semi-final, racking up a comprehensive 4-1 lead before some late drama saw goals aplenty, a Fleet penalty eventually making it 5-2 before their opponents made it a nervy finale with two more goals in the dying moments of the game.

The Academy side competed in two leagues this campaign โ€“ the U19 National Youth Alliance and the Tactic League, offering a comprehensive programme of matches for the entire squad of players within the club’s Academy throughout the season.

Trials for next season’s intake, overseen by Fleet academy boss Danny Kedwell, are coming up at the end of this month.
