Thy King Dom come…

Your Supporters’ Player of the Year. Your Players’ Player of the Year. Your highest goalscorer in a single season of the 21st century… your golden boot winner, goal of the season winner, Vanarama National League South player of the season.

We could go on, but here’s the news Fleet fans have been waiting for – Dominic Poleon has agreed a new deal to stay at the Kuflink Stadium as Dennis Kutrieb’s newly promoted squad take on the National League in 2023/24.

Poleon has enjoyed his best run of games and goals under manager Dennis Kutrieb

The 29-year-old striker has found a home at the Fleet since joining towards the tail end of the abortive 2020/21 season, rattling up the goals count and heading towards the 100-game mark (he’s currently on 95) shared by his strike partner Rakish Bingham.

Those Fleet stats are the best numbers of Poleon’s career and he added to them considerably in a significant season at the club in 2022/23. He scored four hat-tricks during the title-winning campaign that rewarded him with 38 goals in all competitions, a feat recognised when Nineties record goalscorer Steve Portway presented Poleon with his Golden Boot trophy in April.

Two “Ps” in a pod – Portway and Poleon begin a long discussion about goals scored at the Fleet

Further evidence of Poleon’s all-conquering goal count is an amazing record that of the 37 matches in which he has scored for the Fleet, the team has won 36 of those!

The London-born forward, who previously played for Leeds United, Oldham Athletic, Bradford City and AFC Wimbledon, has also sped up the Fleet’s all-time goalscoring charts, currently sitting in 15th position. Another prolific spell this coming season would see him overtake Danny Kedwell and Che Stadhart as the highest all-time scorer this century.

Welcome back to the Fleet, Dom!
