Stylish Fleet progress in Youth Cup

Ebbsfleet United’s Academy side brushed aside the setback of going a goal behind in their Third Qualifying Round tie at home to Maidstone United on Monday night.

Having despatched Lingfield, Faversham and Eastbourne Town in previous rounds, Fleet briefly saw their FA Youth Cup ambitions on the rack after the Stones took a 21st-minute lead. A corner was headed home by Craig Lawrence to give the visitors a lead they held until three minutes into the second half.

That was when Fleet upped their game and Karn Miller-Neave once again proved dependable from the penalty spot, firing home to equalise. Shilow Tracey made it 2-1 on 70 minutes and, though Maidstone pressed to get back on level terms, Casey Johnson put it out of their reach in time added on with a third.

It earns the Fleet a trip to Priestfield Stadium to meet Gillingham in a mouth-watering First Round affair. That tie will take place in November, with the exact date to be announced.
