The club has been very touched by all the messages of concern for Chris Haigh following his injury at Eastbourne Borough last night – and we wanted to update supporters regarding his progress.
The Fleet goalkeeper was helped from the pitch with 15 minutes to go after a challenge with Eastbourne’s Jake Hutchinson and he left the ground on crutches and wearing an air boot.
Further investigations this morning have alas revealed that Chris has broken his ankle in three places. We are not putting a timeframe on any return at this early stage yet but would just like to wish Chris a speedy and complete recovery.
He will, of course, be supported on an ongoing basis by the club throughout his rehabilitation and no doubt backed and encouraged by the tremendous support of Fleet fans.
Manager Dennis Kutrieb said following last night’s match, “I feel really sorry for him. He had an outstanding pre-season. He’s really good for us and important for the team as well. I’ve played football, and [you can tell]; I wouldn’t be surprised if it is a serious injury.
“Alex Finney, we will see. It was more that he could feel something and we wanted to be careful because we know his history – we never want to risk anything. If it’s bad, we can’t say at the moment and we will see on that, but hopefully it is not bad.”
