Southend’s ANG adds energy to Fleet’s flank

Ebbsfleet United are pleased to announce the loan signing today of winger Ashley Nathaniel-George from Southend United.

Having played more than 75 games for Crawley and Southend in the EFL, Ash is a quick, exciting and extremely skilful wide player.

The highly rated 26-year-old began his career via the academies at Arsenal, Watford and Wycombe Wanderers. After a scholarship with Wealdstone, he began to attract considerable interest in two seasons with Potters Bar Town and another at Hendon. He reached double figures in goals in each of his final seasons for both clubs, helping Hendon to the Isthmian Premier play-offs.

He made his much anticipated move into the EFL with Crawley Town in 2018, playing 30 times in League Two in his first season, subsequently going on to sign a new two-year contract with the Sussex club. In October 2020, he moved to Crawey’s then-League Two rivals Southend United, who paid a fee for his transfer. Ash impressed immediately and went on to sign a new extended contract in December 2020.

“We have injuries at the back and out wide,” Dennis Kutrieb said of the latest addition to the Fleet squad. “He’s a very interesting, very exciting player and we’re lucky to be able to get him in from Southend as he is one we have been aware of and watched for some time. He has been out injured for a spell and this is his opportunity to get some proper game time. More importantly, he is ready to come straight in and put his stamp on games.”

Ash will wear the Fleet’s No.26 shirt. His loan period is for an initial month and the club would like to thank Southend United for their assistance in enabling the move – it is another very positive relationship that we have fostered with a club higher up the pyramid that has and will continue to pay dividends going forward.
