Solly secured in latest summer signing

The Fleet round off this week’s new-contract announcements with the news that Chris Solly will once again pull on a red shirt in season 2022/23.

The 31-year-old defender made 43 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring his first goals for the club against Hampton & Richmond Borough in the FA Cup and then Chippenham Town towards the end of the season.

The experienced former Charlton player stepped into the captain’s role when deputising for Lee Martin through the season and combined his playing duties with a coaching role under Dennis Kutrieb.

And he was also voted as Players’ Player of the Year by his teammates where he accepted the award at the club’s 75th anniversary dinner in April.

Chris Solly has combined his playing role with additional coaching duties at the Fleet

Solly has operated primarily as part of the Fleet’s back-three line but was also deployed in a defensive midfield role since joining the club initially to train with the first-team in December 2020. After making his debut in January 2021, Solly went on to sign an extended contract through to this summer; this latest new deal with the Fleet will now see him return in July for pre-season and the 2022/23 campaign ahead.

Everyone at the club would also like to congratulate Chris on some other important close-season business – his recent wedding!
