Martin Bogue

Everyone here at Ebbsfleet United is deeply saddened to learn that cherished supporter Martin Bogue passed away last weekend after a long illness.

Martin may have been better known to many fans as ‘Hirsty’, the name he used down the years on the club’s various forums and message boards in homage to his other beloved passion away from the Fleet, Sheffield Wednesday and their player David Hirst.

A great character, he was a regular fixture on the boards ever since their inception, striking up in-person and online relationships with so many Fleet fans that even those who had never met him in the flesh felt like they had – a state of affairs very much proven by the outpouring of sorrow and sympathy from those who regarded him as an online pal.

A season-ticket holder for numerous years, he was a regular on the side terrace known colloquially as “Geeks’ Corner” where he shared countless 90-minutes, opinions and pints with his many matchday mates.

A former club shareholder, he had more than 4,000 posts on the current incarnation of the Fleet forum and a similar number on the previous versions, all of them laced with the sense of humour his fellow fans came to expect from him in good, bad and indifferent times for the club. And for those who shared time at the many, many matches he attended, or alongside him in the town’s local pubs on a weekend, the warmth and witticisms continued to shine through.

All our thoughts here at the club and amongst our wider fanbase go out to Martin’s wife Lynn, his family and friends at this time.
