Fleet to be involved with Black History Month

This week I have been discussing the Fleet’s involvement in the annual Black History Month celebrations taking place in Gravesham during the month of October with the African Caribbean Forum Kent (ACFK).

Black History Month has been celebrated in the UK since 1987 and the black community uses this history month as an opportunity to share with the world its vast contributions, not least in sport. It is a time to demonstrate pride in its creativity, respect for its intellectual prowess and a celebration of its cultural identity.

EUFC will be one of the sponsors of Gravesham’s Black History Month and Fleet players will be attending the Gala Event being organised by the ACFK on Wednesday, 28th October, at the Woodville, Gravesend.

Yetunde Adeola, chairman of the ACFK, is the driving force behind the Black History Month celebrations in Gravesham. She has previously received the ‘Pride in Gravesham’ Award in 2012 for her efforts in bridging the gap for ethnic minorities in Gravesham and for working with many community organisations to further their opportunities. Her husband, Prince Adewale Adeola, is the founder of the African Caribbean Business Forum in Kent and is also the founder and chair of the Youth Ngage FC.

The Youth Ngage project promotes and encourages sporting activities among young people in partnership with North Kent Police and other community organisations, to use sports as an entry point to community development and increasing social engagement.

Youth Ngage has various aims and objectives but the main aim is to: “Bridge the gap between the young people and those in higher authorities”. This can be achieved by organising conferences, sporting activities and any other medium through which we believe we can reach out to the young people in the community.

The Fleet will be welcoming, as our guests, the current Youth Ngage FC squad to the Tuesday night home game v Sutton United on 15th September, which will be a chance for the Youth Ngage team to see the Fleet close up and hopefully see us continue to make a strong statement of intent this season.

If you are interested in providing support to the great work that both
Yetunde (in relation to the African Caribbean Forum Kent) or Prince (in relation to the Youth Ngage Project) undertake, then please contact them via their websites on www.acfkent.org and www.youthngage.org.
