Hall hands Hillyard a third lion

Brandon Hall’s first England C outing against Estonia in midweek has provided the club – and not least goalkeeping coach Ron Hillyard – with their third successive capped goalkeeper after Hall followed in the footsteps of Lance Cronin and Preston Edwards before him.

In fact, Ron could even claim a fourth goalkeeping success as Sam Mott made the England C squad in his time at Welling United but was, of course, coached by Ron from a young age via the Fleet youth team and into the first-team squad. Cronin earned his first call-up in 2006, figuring seven times, before Edwards followed him in 2010.

Brandon’s call-up saw him play almost the entire 90 minutes in England’s 4-2 win at The Shay Ground, Halifax, and take part in training under manager Paul Fairclough. Next Tuesday’s match programme will carry photographs and a report on Brandon’s international debut.

Fleet have also been represented at various England levels by outfield players including Jimmy Jackson, Luke Moore, James Smith, Chris McPhee, Darius Charles and Michael West.
