Fleet firmly in the Romain camp

Dennis Kutrieb has swooped for a striker as Fleet can today confirm the signing of Elliott Romain after he departed Dartford.

The pacy 29-year-old, who was named in the National League South team of the year in 2019/20, has considerable experience at this level and higher, having top-scored for numerous clubs over the past decade.

He began his career in Brighton and Millwallโ€™s academies before tasting senior football with Three Bridges across four free-scoring seasons. He then climbed ever higher up the pyramid as his goals alerted sides throughout the divisions to his talents.

He moved on to Lewes and then the first of three spells with Eastbourne Borough, a club for whom he scored 20 goals in just 25 starts in 2016/17.

John Still signed him for Dagenham & Redbridge for an undisclosed fee in 2017 and he also spent time with Torquay United and Welling United on loan, before staying in the National League with Maidstone United where he ended the 2018/19 season, having played there with Fleet player of the year Jack Paxman.

After a final spell back with Eastbourne, where he played alongside Tobi Adebayo-Rowling and Michael West, Romainโ€™s next port of call was Dartford. He was a key figure in the Dartsโ€™ 2019/20 success, scoring 15 goals in 26 games as he struck up a hugely successful partnership with former Fleet striker Darren McQueen that carried Dartford all the way to the National League South play-off final.

He stayed with Dartford last season, adding a further 15 appearances in the abandoned campaign

Aside from his obvious goals threat, the tireless Romain adds plenty of other attributes in and around the box, with good aerial ability as well as an energetic tenacity to unsettle defenders and create space for his strike partners.
