First-time clash in county cup

Fleet travel to Sevenoaks Town tonight for a first competitive meeting between the two sides in the Second Round of the Kent Senior Cup.

The Bostik League side, 14th in the South East Division in their first season at that level, play on 3G at their Bourne Stadium/Greatness Park ground and will be hoping to build on a 3-1 win at Folkestone Invicta in the opening round.

Daryl McMahon expects to name a number of his first-team squad tonight, including goalkeeper Jon Miles, plus players who have spent time on the bench or out of the side in recent league fixtures so that will likely mean 90 minutes or so for the likes of Darren McQueen, Andy Drury, Jack King, Luke Coulson and others. Aaron McLean, who has not featured for the Fleet since last season’s FA Trophy replay at Warrington, is also expected to appear in some capacity. A number of youth players will also travel with the squad tonight.

Fleet exited this competition at the first hurdle against Bromley last season and haven’t won the cup since 2014. For Sevenoaks, who were SCEFL champions last season, it’s their first year contesting the Senior Cup.

Boss Micky Collins was Kent Online’s manager of the week after his side beat Kent neighbours Hythe Town 2-0 on Saturday to claim their first home win. Former Fleet striker Luke Coleman appeared from the bench and Collins featured two new signings in defender Fraser Walker from Corinthian Casuals and pacy striker William Johnson-Cole from Punjab United, who once trialled for the Fleet after being released by Crystal Palace. He scored Sevenoaks’ opening goal at the weekend.

Admission is ยฃ8 adults, ยฃ4 concessions and ยฃ1 for U16s; ground directions are here. Kick-off is 7.30pm.
