Akinde’s last-gasp winner shocks Stafford

Four games, four goals. John Akinde nicks the points for the Fleet…

STAFFORD RANGERS 0-1 EBBSFLEET UNITED

The Fleet kept themselves in the play-off hunt this afternoon but left it until the very last to do so as John Akinde scored his fourth goal in as many games in his first start for the Fleet. In a drab encounter where Stafford had the edge but the Fleet nevertheless looked comfortable, Akinde’s stoppage-time winner from Stacy Long’s mishit shot provided the main element of drama.

Long and Akinde had both gone close minutes before as the Fleet upped their game in the final 10 minutes, at last emerging as an attacking threat, but a goal still didn’t look on the cards until Fleet’s latest hotshot found the back of the net with almost the last kick of the match.

TEAM: Cronin, Ricketts, Hawkins, Smith, Opinel, Bostwick, Akinde, Barrett, Long, Moore, McPhee.
Subs not used: French, Nade, Coleman, Stubbs, Purcell.
