Purcell pounces for hard-fought win

Fleet come away from Rushden with maximum points as George Purcell scores.

RUSHDEN & D 0-1 EBBSFLEET UNITED

A first-half goal from youngster George Purcell was enough to give Liam Daish’s depleted side a morale-boosting 1-0 win at Nene Park. Purcell’s 32nd minute goal, as he flew in down the left to latch onto Mark De Bolla’s cross, edged the visitors in front. The Fleet, giving newcomer Michael Bostwick a start in midfield, endured a determined attacking spell from Rushden and more than five minutes of injury time, but Liam Daish’s men held on to the clear delight of their boss.

TEAM: Tynan, McCarthy, Bostwick, Hawkins, Purcell, De Bolla, McPhee, Long, Opinel, Moore, Eribenne. Subs: Nade, Coleman, Stubbs, Mott, Starkey.
