Thatcham snatch victory in PASE final

The PASE team’s play-off final turns on a debatable penalty as Thatcham triumph…

EBBSFLEET UNITED 2-4 THATCHAM TOWN

The Fleet’s PASE side had to settle for the runners-up spot following Thatcham Town’s comeback in Wednesday’s Football Conference Youth League Championship play-off final. Thatcham led from the 24th minute when Marc Piper edged them ahead, but the Fleet bounced back with goals from the impressive Jordan Thomas on 45 minutes and Ryan Cole on 68.

In an entertaining game where the Fleet appeared to be on top, the visitors were awarded what appeared to be a soft penalty on 77 minutes which Steffan Brown tucked away. Brown then went on to score two more goals in quick succession (80 and 82 minutes) to complete a five-minute hat-trick, including one fine effort from distance.

But despite the result, the general impression from a decent crowd was that the Fleet side’s obvious display of talent is merely a precursor for better to come and the team’s run to the final has done the whole club proud.

TEAM: Rob French,
