Fleet’s PASEsetters better Barnet

The Fleet’s PASE side will play Thatcham Town in next Wednesday’s Championship final at Stonebridge Road…

EBBSFLEET UNITED 3-2 BARNET (after extra time)

Report by Mick Chatwin

Ebbsfleet United’s PASE side wrapped up a creditable victory over Barnet at Stonebridge Road to make the Football Conference Youth League Championship final.

The Fleet just edged the first half and opened the scoring through Kwesi Appiah on 16 minutes after great work by Sam Callander. Barnet equalised straight from the restart but on 25 minutes, the best goal of the match resulted as a free kick from the Fleet’s Michael West held up on the wind and
looped over Phil Carpenter in the Barnet goal, sending Ebbsfleet in at the
break 2-1 to the good.

Barnet came out a different side in the second half and really took the
game to Ebbsfleet forcing extra time when they netted their second equaliser on 75
minutes.

But the Fleet emerged victorious in the last 10 minutes of extra time. A free kick on
the edge of the Barnet area was sent in with power by Grant Duff and
forced over the line by Chris Henry to set up a Championship showdown
against Thatchem Town, to be held at Stonebridge Road next Wednesday, May 7, time to be advised.
