The sad news reached us today at the club that lifelong supporter David Preston had passed away after a long battle with cancer.
David was one of those club stalwarts who quietly but determinedly supported the Fleet and gave of his time willingly in doing so.
Although his health suffered in latter years, he always made every effort to see as many Fleet games as he could and kept in touch this season, like all Fleet fans, via the livestreaming of matches.
This season, he renewed his season ticket and got to meet Fleet boss Dennis Kutrieb, while also seeing one more game when volunteering at a behind-closed-doors fixture.
Ebbsfleet United FC’s sympathies are with his family, friends and fellow fans as we remember David today.
A Fleet Supporters’ Trust website tribute read, “David was very passionate about the Fleet, and after meeting Dennis Kutrieb at the club in August 2020, was relishing the start of the new campaign. He volunteered at one of the Fleet games held behind closed doors, so he did manage to get in one last game in person. We all send our condolences to his sister, Joan, and all members of the wider family. When we all get back to Stonebridge Road, we’ll miss seeing him pre-match in the Trust bar!”
