Band ahoy! And a memento for Barbara

I am sure, like me, what you really want for Christmas is 51 points by the end of Boxing Day. To help create the kind of home game atmosphere that another team topping their league achieved against Chelsea on Monday night (without the irritating clappers), the No Limits Street Band will join our very own Fleet drummer, Scott Poleykett and the “boys who make all the noise” in the Plough End to get everyone behind the team in yet another important home game to stamp our mark as ‘Champions elect’.

Before kick-off, Rus, Dan and the other members of the No Limits Street Band will get everyone in the festive mood by playing a medley of Christmas tunes outside the Social Club.

Barbara’s Trip down Memory Lane

Many of you will remember Barbara Westerman as a regular fan at Stonebridge Road. Barbara is now 83 years of age and was a resident at Huggens College for 22 years. During that time she was a season ticket holder at the Fleet and was a regular passenger on away match coaches.

In the last few years Barbara had started to develop Alzheimer’s and was struggling to look after herself. More worryingly she started to wander. After one such incident early this year in which Barbara wandered some distance, it was deemed appropriate for her to move to somewhere where she could receive 24-hour care.

I recently visited with David Ward (Northfleet Big Local Trustee) the home where Barbara now lives and presented her with a framed signed photograph of the first-team squad.

Barbara was genuinely delighted with her present. It was a simple gesture much appreciated by someone who spent much of her life supporting the team we all love to follow.
