Fleet academy frontman Jack Hardy has teamed up with rival Maidstone United player Alfie Whitnell with the pair aiming to run more than 200km in two weeks and raise funds alongside the effort.
Hardy, 17, led the line for the Fleet in our Kent Senior Cup tie at Ramsgate earlier in the year and together with Whitnell has been running 15km a day towards reaching their 200km target.
The idea started as the pair attempted to outpace each other on (socially-distant, of course!) runs to maintain their fitness levels and they decided instead to channel their energies into raising money for the NHS during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Both players have parents in frontline services so have an extra incentive to raise as much money as they can.
On their runs, the Medway-based players maintain at least a 2m distance by running on opposite sides of the road. As of publication, Hardy and Whitnell had smashed through their £1,000 target towards £3,500 with around 100km of runs completed.
