Preston loaned to Boreham Wood

Ebbsfleet United’s long-serving goalkeeper Preston Edwards has signed for Boreham Wood on a season’s-long loan.

The 25-year-old former England C keeper joined the club back in the summer of 2010, winning promotion via the play-offs in his first season at Stonebridge Road. A virtual ever-present in the No.1 shirt over his first four seasons, he reached his 200th appearance for the club in last season’s campaign – his fifth at the club – despite a shoulder injury that ruled him out for part of the year.

He is seventh in the appearances list of Fleet goalkeepers down the years, standing alongside club legends including Brian Hughes and Lee Smelt.

Likely to be best remembered in the wider world of football as the goalkeeper who was sent off after 10 seconds, thereby racking up millions of YouTube views, for Fleet fans Preston has been much more over the past five years. Popular with supporters on and off the field, Preston has been one of the club’s most loyal servants in recent times and he goes to Boreham Wood – where he will join up with fellow promotion winner Ricky Shakes – with the best wishes of all at the club for his considerable achievements at Stonebridge Road.
