Football tomorrow

Postby Rutters » Fri Mar 02, 2012 2:37 pm

My timings tomorrow won't allow me to get to Gateshead and back.

However I see Tonbridge Angels are playing Dartford. That might be worth a trip out.

The Angels tried to get a drop on the Darts by fielding a full strength squad for the KSC tie so I don't see the Darts losing this one either.

Hythe beat Dover in the semis 3-0 so good luck to them in the finals this season.

We three traveled south to see the Angles lose by a solitary goal to highly focused promotion chasing D***ford. A draw would have been a fair result in front of 1.1k fans on a sunny afternoon.

A somewhat svelte-like Jacob Erskine was effective up front for the visitors while Joe Benjamin operated on the left wing for the home side. We also had a few words with pleasant young Joe Hagan who'd returned from a loan spell at Fisher.

The ref was poor and soon to be out of his teens.

I went to the Kent Senior Trophy Semi Final between Hollands & Blair and Erith & Belvedere. The ref in that one was pretty iffy too - 3 red cards and barely a bad challenge all game.

Made me glad to be watching Ebbsfleet though - the pitch was awful - so bumpy & quality was generally lacking. H&B had a decent young left winger, but no-one stood out. 2 decent goals though, 1 from Andy Constable - former Tonbridge & Bromley player who played in their friendly against us pre-season, and a cracker from an H&B player which took the game to extra time, in the very last minute.

Erith then won it with a penalty in extra time.

It was a good day for Kent football with wins for the mighty Fleet, the Gills and D***ford. A special mention should be made about Herne Bay who won their FA Vase quarter final match away from home. As in the previous round, Bay played most of the game with 10 men.

Herne Bay took two 51 seater coaches too for their game. I'm glad Dartford are winning, want them up here with us.

Someone I know has been to see Dartford a couple of times this season when the Fleet have been away and hasn't been able to get to the away game and he said to me that they need to get a few players who have either league or conference experience as they will struggle in the BSP.
